My work is to teach you to sing through your body, with ease and power.
We will engage your whole self as a singing, breathing mechanism. We will identify “body mind” imagery to identify old and new places where the voice resides. We will train your inner eye to spot tension and release flow, your inner ear to “feel” pitch. You will learn the singer’s breath and simultaneous inner/outer focus. We’ll practice the release of habitual muscle tension that inhibits free passage of the breath. The result is that you will sing freely with your whole body.
I work with students at any level who are ready to “go for it”, who are ready to be both supported and challenged and who are open to new possibilities. I see my role as coaxing out the best in your voice and giving you concrete tools that will improve your siging.
Practice within a small community of like-minded people. Add value by listening to and witnessing one another. Learn tips on how to strengthen your voice, increase your range and projection. Grow in confidence while making new friends, rehearsing music for appreciation and performance.
Would you like to continue singing in our choral ensemble? Singing together, like social dancing sets ups that “good” energy: endorphins that counteract stress and strain. The vibrations created in the body truly do heal us on a cellular level, and counteract age and illness-related depression while giving us a chance to learn skills, connect with others, laugh and make something beautiful.
We’ll include the beginners and the more advanced singers in learning songs, rounds, chants and arranged choral music by composers from Becky Reardon to Isaye Barnwell. Session one, you’ll surprise yourself by being able to learn and sing a piece together. By session two, you’ll have two more under your belt. By session 4, we may have five songs to enjoy and perform.
You will strengthen your voice, increase your range and projection, grow in confidence and make new friends as you sing. Come and join us to make a joyful noise!

“That class was the joy of the year…truly. I would like to attend another. I’m not much of a singer, and found myself quite closed within, but I left the class singing down the street…letting a voice out! It was a miracle. Really.” —a class participant

“Lauren has helped me find myself again as a singing person. I am thrilled to be able to truly express who I am with my voice.”
—Sam Barnessdfa, bank manager
“I am challenged and inspired by Lauren’s teaching. I listened and I understood; now I’m singing and notating music. And oh yes, I laughed a lot. It’s rare to experience learning as such a joyful process, no matter what level you are. Take this class.”
—Ann Martin
“I sing in our temple’s High Holy Day choir, but have been very frustrated with my skills. Eureka! Lauren’s class has been both a delight and a blessing. Every week we unravel the mysteries and techniques of sight reading in a space of lightheartedness and joy, that Lauren creates. I am rediscovering the wonders of music that I first experienced long ago as a child. I highly recommend her class to anyone who loves music.”
—Phoebe Weiner
“I have sung choral music for years but always learned it by plunking out the part on the piano or just learning by ear. Now I’m really beginning to understand how to sight sing in a focused, fun and relaxed atmosphere. Lauren is such a good guide for this.”
—Liz Raymer
